Our story.

The idea of creating the Collective came when I was searching for a new space to lease for my gallery given that my current lease is nearing its end. I really wanted to stay downtown and improve the parking situation. When I came across the available ex-Main Street Bank location, I found it very appealing. However, the space was too large for my shop alone. During this process, I discovered that art and antique malls/collectives in surrounding towns all have long waiting lists. I realized that it’s a question of time to find interested vendors who would participate in the Collective.

Three years ago, I opened an art gallery and antique shop in downtown Westborough. My idea was to create a French-style boutique where art and antiques could be showcased and sold alongside one another in an uncluttered setting. This unique space also allows for ticketed private gatherings and events.

While New England’s rich historical heritage contributes to an extensive inventory of antiques and art, Westborough lost its antique shop a decade ago. Surrounding towns have their own antique shops/malls. Adding another establishment of this kind will further enrich the local antique trail, providing an additional destination for enthusiasts.

Although we have a certain number of gift shops in our area, there are few exclusively dedicated to local artisans and artists. The Boroughs Collective will offer a variety of unique products in one place, fulfilling the dream of any suburban shoppers to have a choice of unique home décor and gift items all in one location.

I established my art and antiques shop, Leduc Art & Antiques, in Westborough almost three years ago, amidst the pandemic. Currently, I sell art creations by local artists, artisanal items by local artisans, antiques, and other unique items that I buy specifically for my shop. I also organize events such as art cocktails, pop-up boutiques (past events included hand-made jewelry, an independent book seller, artisanal chocolate, etc.), and private events such as book clubs, tea parties, etc. Having outgrown my original space, I absolutely wanted to stay downtown. I discussed a lot with other small businesses in the area to create an old-time-village like atmosphere, that would encourage foot traffic between our shops. This led me to the realization that I can bring together under one roof various vendors, including artists, artisans, antique dealers, to name a few.
